Celebrating Mom with a baking memory

It is Mother’s Day this weekend and we at the Suitcase Bakery are going to be baking our version of old favorite my Grandmother made during the Christmas Holiday, Lady Fingers. When I pulled out this recipe I am brought back to Grandma making delicate sponge cakes with frosting in the middle and a dusting of powdered sugar. Sweet, yet light, they remind me of her and the times we baked together and started me on this journey of relaxation through creating things from scratch.

When making the Suitcase Bakery version of this favorite memory I wanted to keep it light but make the Lady Fingers something to share with delicate Sponge Cakes and Lemon Curd, Fresh Blueberries, Blueberry Puree and Chantilly in the center. We hope you can share them with your Mom or someone special and remember happy memories on this special day.

Valentine’s Day

Nothing says love like Red Velvet Whoopie Pies with Cherry Cream Cheese Frosting. These are a year in the making and now they are ready this Sunday (2/13) at the Denville Farmers’ Market from 10-1. They come two to a package, so you don’t have to share unless you want to. But that is not all, we will have Cherry Buns and Pink Marshmallows for your cocoa nights. Indulge with your Valentine or just celebrate yourself with a treat.

Second Anniversary May 23rd, time flies when baking buns…

Our first sale was an exhausting day filled with rain and visits from old friends and new friends under our tent in the Denville Farmers’s Market parking lot, but it was just the start of our baking journey. After 2 years we are still loving seeing everyone on alternating Sunday’s during the summer and once a month during the winter, making a variety of baked goods based on our travels around the world and some items from our childhood (butter rolls are back). This Sunday we will celebrate our 2nd Anniversary at the Denville Famers’ Market on May 23rd with a slice of birthday cake to the first 20 pre-orders and we will have a few at the stand on Sunday while supplies last on Sunday morning (8:30-1). We hope to see you there.

Pavlova for Mom

St. Patrick’s Day and a Look Back.

Hi everyone! It has been awhile and wanted everyone to know we will be back at the Denville Farmers’ Market on March 14th from 10- 1pm. Check our pre-order menu for new items and order your favorites today.

March is special for us and our favorite baker wanted to share a story on where we learned one of our favorite breads.

It all began many decades when I had the opportunity to live, work, and study in the beautiful countries of Ireland and Northern Ireland. I instantly fell in love. A friend at the school I was studying at often took me home for the school holidays. One weekend, in this tiny galley style kitchen in their old farm house her mother was making bread. She would take handfuls of this flour and that and mix in some milk. There was no recipe, it was all measured by hand. Wanting to desperately make this unique bread when I returned home, I noticed she had a scale in her tiny kitchen. So when she make a second loaf she gracious let me write down the ingredient and weights of each handful. This was the Irish Wheaten bread.

The Suitcase Bakery is excited to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day with you. We hope you enjoy our Irish wheaten bread and soda bread with your family and friends.

We will be back…
